Editable Budget Sheet for Engineering Design Challenges
Updated: February 12, 2025
Type: STEM Resource
Grade Level: 2 - 12
Grab this template for use in making a materials budget for any engineering design challenge! These are editable Google Slides with a materials brainstorming sheet and a budget sheet for extra math practice and material conservation during design challenges.
These editable sheets can be used with any engineering design challenge to help facilitate distribution of materials as well as add math practice. To use successfully, distribute these budget pages during the brainstorming phase and assign cost values to the materials you have available for the challenge. Create a material station. Allow students to send a team captain to collect materials. Provide students a budget for materials and allow them to purchase the materials after calculating that the total cost is within your given budget. For example, students may have $10 to spend and prices are $1 for 2 note cards and $2 for four cotton balls.
